Tightrope is a new contemporary fantasy set in Ottawa, Canada.

Military emergency room nurse Kira is enraged, maybe because magic exists or because her husband, Tim, was a magician and didn’t tell her, or because he cheated on her and may have killed their daughter—or because he went and got himself murdered.

Kira gets two weeks of bereavement leave to sort though her feelings. But in that time, she discovers that magic is everywhere, even right next door. She develops her own magical powers after nearly dying in a traffic accident―she can now speak directly into someone’s mind and fly objects across a room―and becomes the apprentice of her curmudgeonly neighbour. But Kira’s beloved sister―with her own drama―thinks it’s all evil and wants Kira to knock it off. Kira wants revenge, answers, and her dead husband back, though she’s not sure in what order.

Then she learns that she can raise the dead. She just needs all of someone’s blood, every last drop.
